Volunteers Wanted

The Heroes Festival will require an army of volunteers performing a variety of duties throughout the weekend. With a parade on the Friday evening to static and interactive displays during the day on Saturday and Sunday, Air Shows and finally a Saturday Night Beach Concert.

Heroes Festival volunteers will receive 2 souvenir t-shirts, ball cap, meals and cold drinks on days worked and invitation to Opening Night party. 


Guest Services

Guest Services is one of the most important positions at the Festival. Positions include greeting visitors at our Information pavilion, VIP Chalets, concert venue, pilot meet & greet and food service areas.

Volunteers working in areas serving alcohol will require a Smart Serve certificate and be 19 years of age or older. All other areas must be 18 years of age or older.

Airport Operations

Our Air Show performers will fly out of Lake Simcoe Regional Airport north of Barrie.  Volunteers will assist in 

  • Providing food and cold drinks to pilots and support personnel

  • Moving vehicles from ramp to parking lot

  • Shuttling equipment and staff from Hotel to Airport

  • Check in of VIP guests to meet pilots

  • Escort invited guests to and from secure areas

  • Assist airport staff in various duties as necessary

Police security check required for volunteers working on airside portion of airport. Drivers require a valid ON Drivers license with current abstract.

Parking and Traffic Control

Over 50,000 visitors to Wasaga Beach is expected each day and we need to ensure everyone gets in and out safely.  Our parking & traffic volunteers will work alongside the Police in high traffic areas.

All volunteers for this crew should be 18 years of age or older.


Security volunteers will work alongside local police and security personnel to keep our show and guests safe.

Volunteers for this crew should be 21 years or older and previous security or law enforcement experience is an asset.


This crew works before and after the Airshow transporting our loaner vehicles to the field for our visiting performers and returning them afterwards.  Other duties could involve driving cube vans and other vehicles to deliver personnel or other product.

All volunteers must be 21 years or older. A valid ON Driver’s Licence with current abstract is required.

Water Operations

During the airshows the show box area must remain clear of boats and swimmers. Water Operations Team Members will operate Personal Watercraft to ensure the safety of Festival visitors and aircraft performing in the show. Water Operations Team Members must be a member of a First Responder Agency, possess a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card and demonstrate experience on a Personal Watercraft.

Safety Operations

With the high volume of visitors to Wasaga Beach over the weekend Safety Operations Team Members will respond to calls for Lost Children, Medical and other safety or emergency related calls. Safety Operations Team Members will operate from Festival supplied Side by Side vehicles which will be equipped with two-way radios, helmets and First Aid kit.

Safety Operations Team Member volunteers must be a current Firefighter, Paramedic or Nurse.

Safety Operations Dispatchers

Safety Operations Dispatchers will operate radio, telephone and computer equipment at Festival Headquarters. Receive reports from the public of  lost children, medical or police emergencies. Relay information to law enforcement and emergency response personnel.

Safety Operations Dispatchers must be current or previously employed First Responder Agency dispatchers.


 Festival Operations

This group of volunteers will be responsible for;

  • Fence set up and take down

  • Assist suppliers in setting up and taking down VIP tents

  • Erecting traffic and sponsors signage

  • Sand maintenance aboard John Deere tractors

  • Moving and delivering souvenir merchandise and ice aboard John Deere Gators

  • Placing and removing small generators and ensuring they are fueled

  • Placement and operation of construction work lights

  • Setting up and taking down tables and chairs in VIP chalets

  • Telehandler operators (forklifts that extend the forks)
